SBBA supports economic development and growth in South Burlington. CityPlan 24 should focus on attracting new economic investment, supporting small start-up businesses, and promoting the hospitality and retail sectors. The effort underway to reduce greenhouse gas emissions within city limits is commendable, but this work should supplement, not supplant or supersede, the other important goals of the city.
CityPlan 24 must recognize the importance of workforce support and quality of life. It should find opportunities to build more affordable housing, childcare, education, and training opportunities to attract and retain a diverse workforce. The plan must acknowledge the need for marketing and branding efforts to showcase the city's vision and attract businesses, including those in the green technology sector. The economic viability and quality of life in South Burlington are two important elements in any comprehensive plan. As such, greater efforts should be made to attract new economic investment. Marketing and branding initiatives should be encouraged to promote the city as a business-friendly destination and highlight its growing cluster of high-tech businesses.
As South Burlington plans for the future, we must recognize the need to address the aging workforce and attract and retain a diverse range of workers with different backgrounds and expertise. As we acknowledge the importance of quality jobs in South Burlington, we also recognize the need for sufficient housing to attract workers to the region.
