Over the past 12 months,Vermonters consumed 116.6 million gallons of propane and 86.2 million gallons of fuel oil (heating oil and kerosene). Over that same time period, Vermonters purchased 22 million gallons of dyed diesel fuel.
Dyed diesel is the energy that powers train engines, ferries, skidders, feller-bunchers, cut-to-length wood processors, forwarders, delimbers, loader slashers, log loaders, whole-tree chippers, stationary screening systems, and firewood processors. Dyed diesel also powers thousands of vehicles that are exempt from the motor fuel excise tax, including school buses, plow trucks, bulldozers, and farm tractors.
